Ahhhh, just got back from the finish of Leg Two of Targa Tas, … and holy shit, what a fun day.
We woke to ominous clouds above, looking like they were threatening ample amounts of rain, and true to Tasmanian form, the heavens opened up during the day to give us wet and intermediate condition stages all day long.
Long transport out to Rossarden and Elephant Pass stages, both were wet, but thankfully Brian and I were in the zone from the day before and went out belting the little porsches, with the Yokahama’s performing well in the wet conditions. Managed to peg back some time against some of our friends, and were deep into the 2nd stage of the day when we approached a rollover incident by a Mustang. We couldnt see any display boards so we stopped to render assistance, but it appeared to be all under control, we jumped in, went forward a little to the SOS point and advised them, and continued on with the stage, … dropping about 1min, which we hope the CRO’s will amend for us.
After the lunch break there were more awesome stages on the East coast, with Brian becoming more confident in how to drive the car again, and with me calling the notes, eventually catching cars that started 30 seconds in front of us by the end of the stages.
The Sideling was brilliant, although a little wet, and with fog on top of the hill, and 200m visibility at best, we werent too sure how fast to attack the straights up the top, even with notes.
Finished the day off with a street stage in Longford, which we managed to clean the base time, and surprising to us, did so in a very fast time.
Currently sitting 16th in Early Modern, .. but with the time adjustment we should pick up a few more
Tomorrow its off to the legendary Cethana & Hellyer Gorge stages .. which could also be wet!
